Poll: Will You Buy a Christmas Present for the Ex?

The results have been in (and I'm late in posting them but figured that was ok since the poll was left on the right sidebar for everybody to see).  Here they are:

WILL YOU BUY A CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR THE EX?

• 11% said "YES"
• 17% said "YES BUT IT'S ONLY FROM THE KIDS"
• 70% said "NO"

I hope Christmas worked out for everybody with visitation hassles, gifts, etc.  We had a pretty good Christmas here, spent it at home with the kids and then New Year's was spent again at home but with family visiting.  I'm a homebody! 

I actually don't feel comfortable going out anymore or have any desire for a big family reunion until I'm a couple sizes smaller (at least one).  If this new doctor on Thursday doesn't get the medication correct for my thyroid, I'm not sure if there is any weight loss program that will help. I have zero metabolism because of my thyroid. Zip. Nada. Nothing.

Well, it's onto thinking up a new poll.  Right now, I have no ideas but I'll come up with something soon.

Poll Results: Regardless of what the ex thinks, do you have a good relationship with your child/stepchild's school

POLL RESULTS: Regardless of what the ex thinks, do you have a good relationship with your child/stepchild's school?

RESULTS:

• YES: 37%
• NO: 25%
• DEPENDS ON THE SCHOOL YEAR: 37%

We had good relationships with the school during the pre-school and elementary school years. Junior high has been hit or miss, depending on the teacher and school year. It also depends on the child. One child has problems in school (actually, he has a problem with his mother who doesn't make him do his homework or study) and the other is an "A" student.

I would like to say that surprises me, but it doesn't. It seemed to be a mission for the first several years of our marriage. All it did, fortunately, was make us more united. We stood together and didn't let it get between us. Instead of our relationship faltering, it grew stronger.

Perhaps I should thank the ex for such a strong relationship with my husband, lol.

Poll Results: Do you take on more responsibility for stepkids...

The polls have closed for my latest poll.

My question was:

Do you, the stepparent, take on more of the day-to-day responsibility for your stepchildren than your spouse/significant other does?

The results:

• 64% said Yes
• 23% said it depends on what is going on at the time.
• 11% said they share the responsibility.
  

My answer would be with the majority - "yes". I take care of a majority of the cooking, grocery shopping, surface cleaning (hubby does all the deep cleaning like mopping and toilets), laundry, driving kids to and from, etc.

As a step-parent, do you feel you should have some input into decision-making in your family if the stepkids are involved?

My personal opinion agrees with the stats. I definitely believe I should be a part of the conversation with my spouse when it concerns his children if it impacts any party of our family such as our time, our finances, any current plans we have, household chores they should share, household rules/consequences, and our own children.

Polls

I am starting a new feature on my step blog. I am going to post polls. Some will be politically correct and likely, some won't. I'm not a politically correct person when seriously aggravated and given the ex we have to deal with, I am only human. The best you can hope for from me is that I won't swear, lol. You are welcome to place your vote. In fact, I hope you do starting now!!

Once they close, I will post the results in a post before removing it and starting a new one. I think it will be fun to see results of how other people in step situations live. How much alike, or how different, we may all be. I think the line will be drawn in a couple important ways - how long we've been a part of a stepfamily & the co-parenting relationship with the ex. I'm interested in the results.
