Gained 9 of 18 Pounds Back

>> Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Within the past year, I lost 18 pounds and was thrilled!  It meant only another 18 pounds to go!  Well, I've since gained back 9 of those 18 pounds.  So frustrating.

My thyroid disease is such a struggle and causes so many other problems besides just weight gain.  I am really tired of this little organ!

My husband doesn't care - says there is more of me to love.  That really doesn't help, but he's trying to get out of the doghouse.  I don't want MORE of me to love.  I want LESS.  I read up a bit on the side effects of weight loss pills but I don't need an appetite suppressant. There's nothing wrong with my appetite. My thyroid has my metabolism down to nothing!

I have an appointment next Friday with my thyroid doctor.  I am curious what his next step will be because so far, his way hasn't worked yet.  I know my way does because I've done it before and was healthier for it.  I'm just trying to stay within the supervision of a doctor but I'm about fed up.

Vacation Minus Husband

>> Sunday, July 11, 2010

Well, it doesn't look like we'll be going on vacation, or if we do, hubby will be staying home.

If we go on vacation, we will be short for our August house payment.  Hours the last few weeks were short for hubby so the expected money isn't there now.  He said he'll stay home (so we don't have to pay to kennel our dogs - saving about $450) and I can take the kids to my family reunion for a couple days if I want to.

I really, really want to go to my reunion.  There will be family there that I haven't seen in more than a decade.  My uncle, who has been fighting cancer the last few years, is driving from half the country away to attend.  Sadly, this will probably be the last time I ever see him again.  However, it's a long drive with just me and the kids, with a car whose transmission is rumbling at 55mph and 65mph.  It'd be my luck to lose the transmission with four kids in the car. Plus, hubby and I have never done anything apart like this.  We always do family things together.

I would imagine that the ex wouldn't allow the stepkids to spend the day with me and the kids while we are there, like was planned, since hubby won't be there now.

Oh yeah, plus I've lost 20 pounds without needing the best weight loss pills that work with my new thyroid medication for my Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Hypothyroidism. Our reunion is on the beach...it'd be fun to be 20 pounds less at the beach!

Doctor Follow-Up

>> Saturday, June 12, 2010

I saw my doctor yesterday as a follow-up to my hospital visit and for my thyroid disease management too.  He doesn't think the reason the hospital gave me for my illness is right.  He doesn't have another reason for me but he doesn't think they were right.  He has increased my thyroid dose which is what I wanted.  I wish he'd have done it two months ago but hey...it's done now.  I want my memory back, the exhaustion to go away, and for this extra weight to take a big hike.  I know I could learn more about weight loss pills but I know in my heart that it's my thyroid. I was a size 2/4 before kids. I was a comfortable six after them. I just want to be a six again. I'm not asking for bone skinny...just healthy.

Thyroid and Weight Loss

>> Saturday, May 15, 2010

My thyroid is still giving me problems.  I've been so tired today that I had to nap this afternoon and I sit here yawning now while I type.

If I could get rid of three hypothyroid symptoms, they'd be exhaustion, weight, and brain fog. I can deal with the others but those three really bother me on a daily basis.

The weight thing is getting to me again because I can feel my wedding ring tightening up.  I don't want to have to take it off again.  I've gained back four out of the 13 pounds I lost.  I've been looking at apidexin reviews which give some information on thyroid function as well.

It'd be nice if my doctor would call me back though. Two phone calls to him and none returned...annoying.

Missed My Stepdaughter's Distress Text!

>> Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Well, I officially don't want to get on anymore weight scales until my thyroid is back under control. My weight is up four pounds and my doctor isn't returning my phone calls to find out what to do about my thyroid/adrenals crashing.  This past weekend, my hair was falling out again.  My husband kept pulling strands of it off my hands.  Apparently every time I ran my hands through my hair or moved it out of my face, I came away with hair in my hands.  I am still falling asleep in the middle of the day and again early in the evening too.  I'm losing hair, gaining weight, and the exhaustion is knocking on my backside.

Last night, my stepdaughter texted me because she was going through a difficult period and I didn't even hear my phone go off right next to my bed.  I was out!  I was upset that I missed her text.  She needed to talk to me and I was zonked.  I emailed her mom today to let her know.  Her mom said they were up until 1:00 a.m. trying to get her through the emotional upheaval she was going through last night.  I feel bad that I missed her text when she needed me.

Just Goofing Off This Morning

>> Tuesday, April 27, 2010

I was on Google Trends to see what the hot trends were in internet searches and "how a simple prank ended a marriage" was one of them. So I clicked and clicked trying to find out what this meant, thinking it might be interesting for my blog (marriage, divorce).  I never did find what this was supposed to mean and gave up clicking, so why is it the hot search right now?  Either it isn't valid or my googling skills are not up to par this morning.

I guess I should just go back to googling about weight loss products like Lipofuze in case my thyroid doctor doesn't get my dosage right and the rest of this weight doesn't come off. I was so wanting to be normal weight by summer again.  We have a family reunion with my family, most I haven't seen in years, and I wanted to be thinner.  I have a few months to do that.  Since diet and exercise doesn't do it, thanks to my thyroid diease (which I am pretty certain came on due to years of stress), my doctor is my last hope for managing my thyroid disease and by extension, my weight.

Weight Loss Progress

>> Thursday, March 4, 2010

I have been on a mission to get better treatment for my thyroid disease.  I believe I've finally found a doctor who can do that for me.  He's changed my medications (increased the dosage).  A pleasant result of changing medications is that I've lost 17 pounds so far!  I wasn't obese and needing bariatric surgery but I needed to lose about 30 pounds and it was impossible with what thyroid disease did to me and improper treatment. My goal is to drop another 15 pounds and then take stock of how I feel and look...if I am happy with what I see in the mirror.

It's hard being a size 2/4 most of your life and then ballooning due to thyroid disease.  I will never see a size 2/4 again but I hope to just look average.  Average is just fine with me.  I got into a size smaller jeans today without having to jump around or lay down to zip them up.  Can't wait until I need to buy new clothes in a smaller size once I meet my goal!

Gained Weight, Have Thyroid Disease

>> Wednesday, January 20, 2010

What weight loss supplements have helped you?  I'm afraid to take any kind of weight loss supplement.  It seems like they are on the market and then pulled off down the road when they cause health problems for the people using them.  I don't want to be one of those statistics.  I've seen several on the market for long enough that they might be safe but I'm neurotic so I don't even want to try.

I've looked at liquid diets and thermogenic fat burners and I wouldn't know where to begin, what to look for in terms of interaction with my thyroid medications.  I know what my problem is - my thyroid.  It's zapped my metabolism down to nothing so if I can find a doctor who knows how to treat the thyroid right, then the weight will fall off on its own.  The problem is finding a good doctor who treats me like a person and not a lab report.

Symptom of Thyroid Disease: Skin Problems

>> Wednesday, August 19, 2009

One of the symptoms of my thyroid disease (hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Goiter, multiple nodules) has been bad skin. My skin looks just horrid and talk about breaking out with zits! I feel like I'm a teenager again. I've recently noticed that it is causing scarring around my nose too. Just what I want to deal with at 37 years old! I feel like I should be looking for the best acne treatment, along with a better doctor to manage my thyroid disease. If it's too oily in one place, it's too dry in another. I just can't win!

Lab Results Back

>> Wednesday, July 22, 2009

My lab results came back from my new endocrinologist. I posted them on my thyroid blog if anybody wants to take a peek at them. The recommendation is coming for another biopsy (yeah me...not). The doctor doesn't think my weight gain has anything to do with my thyroid. Seeing how I was always a beanpole up until I got thyroid disease, it seems pretty obvious to me. The endocrinologist seems to think I can lose two pounds a month by cutting out 100 calories a day. He didn't "hear" me when I told him I don't eat more than the suggested caloric intake and exercising isn't doing anything for me either! It's not like I'm pigging out on a bag of chips by myself! I'm not quite ready for the best weight loss supplements available but I am ready for a new doctor already!

Biopsy is Done

>> Monday, May 18, 2009

My thyroid biopsy is done. They finished it a few hours ago. I am trying to keep my mind off of it but blogging isn't doing the job. This biopsy was worse than the first one I had. My neck and shoulder feels sore. Since they biopsied the right side, and I am right-handed, well...it's a little sore to move. Laughing is sore. Swallowing is sore. My neck is swollen, my head hurts and I feel just "icky".

Results are in 7-10 days. Lucky me.

A New Blog

>> Sunday, May 10, 2009

I have a new blog. Since my thyroid disease had been such a problem for me for eight years, I've decided to devote a blog to not only my problems with it but as a way to post information that I come across that may be helpful as well.

Check out my new blog:

Happy Mother's Day

I just wanted to wish all the stepmothers out there a Happy Mother's Day. I know some don't get acknowledged for all that they do but I ACKNOWLEDGE YOU:) I've been a stepmom for more than 13 years so I know that of which I speak.

So take some time for yourself today to pamper yourself. Don't worry about the ex or anything else. It's your day too (even if she doesn't want to share).

I am going to enjoy my kids today and all their home-made gifts. My husband bought me miniature roses (which I need to do a search online to see how to transplant them) and the horse tack I've wanted for forever but didn't want to spend the money on.

Today, I am going to forget about my thyroid problems and the fact that I have a solid nodule on it that needs to be biopsied. I am not going to think about what is the best diet pill to get rid of all this added weight because of my thyroid. I'm just going to enjoy the day. The rest I can worry about later.

Autoimmune Disorders in Stepfamilies

>> Saturday, February 7, 2009

I've read quite a bit about how stress can affect your health, particularly with the development of autoimmune disorders where your body basically attacks itself. I'm wondering how many of us stepmoms have developed an autoimmune disorder since marrying into a family, becoming a stepfamily, or developed some other type of health problem?

For me, I have TMJ (caused by clenching my teeth when stressed, damaging my jaw), my asthma went from an annoyance to life-threatening, and I developed Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (along with nodules, goiter, hypothyroidism).

According to MedicineNet.com:

"Autoimmune disease: An illness that occurs when the body tissues are attacked by its own immune system. The immune system is a complex organization within the body that is designed normally to "seek and destroy" invaders of the body, including infectious agents. Patients with autoimmune diseases frequently have unusual antibodies circulating in their blood that target their own body tissues.

Examples of autoimmune diseases include systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren syndrome, Hashimoto thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile (type 1) diabetes, polymyositis, scleroderma, Addison disease, vitiligo, pernicious anemia, glomerulonephritis, and pulmonary fibrosis."

This was just a few. There are over 80 autoimmune disorders.

Thyroid Help? Ashwagandha

>> Wednesday, October 8, 2008

I've noticed while reading magazines the past few months the same term that keeps cropping up that has shown success with some people with thyroid disease. The word is "ashwagandha." I am seriously interested in researching this more. I have to be careful because 1) who the heck just takes something they don't know anything about without researching; and 2) I have to be careful what I take while taking thyroid medication because I react oddly to other medications now.

Has anybody heard anything about Ashwagandha and thyroid?
