Is stepdaughter lying about spring break plans?

>> Wednesday, March 30, 2011

My stepdaughter wanted to go to Florida for her spring break with a friend instead of coming here and my husband reluctantly agreed after she promised she'd come here over the summer (I don't believe she will).  I just saw on her facebook page how she is attending a concert of one of her favorite bands in her hometown next week.  So, if she is going to be in Florida, how is she going to be at the concert in her hometown?

Stepson Not Coming For Spring Break

My stepson decided not to come over for spring break starting this weekend.  With his dad working (so is his mom but ya know) and his siblings in school (not that he cares about them anyway and his older sister (my sd) will be in Florida anyway but ya know), he didn't feel the need to come and have to spend time with me with nobody as a buffer for about five hours for a couple days next week I guess. It was as I expected.

Spring Break - Not Sure of Plans

>> Monday, March 14, 2011

Two weeks to my stepkids' spring break.  My stepdaughter is going to Florida this year rather than come here (another break without seeing her).  My husband says my stepson wants to come here for his spring break but he still doesn't know that 1) his siblings will all be in school because their spring break doesn't fall at the same time as his, and 2) his dad will be working the entire time because we can't use the vacation time.  Not sure when hubby plans to lay that one on his son.

So, if my teenage stepson knows he will sit here with me for a week, without his dad or his siblings as a buffer during work and school hours, do ya think he will still want to come?  Heck no.  He's been taught to hate me.  He's been taught that rules and consequences that my husband and I believe and expect our kids to follow are nonsense.  He's been taught that disrespect, cussing, violence, eating crap 24/7 until you're so unhealthy you can't run faster than your five-year-old sister, and being lazy are A-OK.  He's been taught that I am nobody in this family.  Sounds like fun, doesn't it?  Doesn't sound like much fun for either one of us.

Nothing Changed, Just Not Blogging as Much Right Now

>> Tuesday, February 15, 2011

It's been six days since I posted last (I'm on a "vacation" from income blogging but not personal blogging) so I will likely be posting a little less for awhile unless the ex goes on a rampage or a stepkid gets arrested or pregnant.  You never know, it could happen.

No, nothing has changed.  Things haven't gotten better.  Sometimes, it's nice just not to think about the step-stuff and take a break from it all.  It's too much frustration to carry around on a daily basis and once in awhile I need to take a step back and just not think about any of it.

My husband did send his son a text asking him why he removed me from his facebook.  No response from his son.  In fact, since my husband sent that text, his son hasn't contacted him for anything.  No big surprise there.  They don't have to answer for their behavior.

No clue on if my stepson is coming for spring break.  Considering his dad will be working and his siblings will be in school, I would imagine he's not going to want to sit here with just me.  Whatever.  I'm cool with that.  My stepdaughter isn't coming.  She's blowing off time here again to do something else.  That becomes normal after about five years of it.

They're not coming, then they are but not sd...huh?

>> Sunday, February 6, 2011

Apparently, my stepkids were planning on coming here for Spring Break (though we had no idea).  We had sent the request for Spring Break to the ex back in October?  November?  Something like that and we never received a response.

Today, my husband received a text from his daughter because she wanted to go to Florida with a friend instead of come here for Spring Break.  I had no idea they were even coming for Spring Break given the complete lack of response to the request.

She hasn't been here since last April.  My stepson hasn't been here since...the year before that.  Yeah, whatever, go to Florida.

So, is my stepson coming here by himself?  No clue but I'd be surprised if he did considering he just booted his siblings and me off his facebook.  I can't see him wanting to sit here with us, without his sister, while his dad works.  Actually, he'd be sitting here with just me, the stepmom he hates to make his mom happy, because my kids' spring break isn't at the same time as his.

Maybe I can take a vacation at that time too.

Trips to the Stepkids

>> Monday, January 10, 2011

4-1/2 months and counting until my stepdaughter's last day of high school.  I reminded hubby last week that we needed to start saving for the trip to their state to see her graduation ceremony.  He said we also needed to go there sometime soon for one of my stepdaughter's band things.  Huh?  We can't afford two trips in so short a time and we made at trip for one of her band things already.  We.live.in.another.state.  He'll be making that trip without me and our four kids if he needs to make another trip up there for band.

Me?  Pfft!  I'm not putting out another $500-$700 ($300 dog kennel, $200 gas, $200+ food, etc.) on a second trip for two kids who ignored their dad on Father's Day, couldn't bother to even send him a card for his birthday in November, and then blew him off for Christmas.  Yeah, let me run right up to their state and pretend they didn't act like little turds!

I will go to the graduation ceremony where we will hug the kids who blow off their father year round and make meaningless talk with their mother and see the kids for a short time and then they'll blow us off the entire time we are up there, except for a hand out for the graduation gift.  The ex will probably extend a graduation party invitation to us with her family, because she'd look like a total knob otherwise, where they can stare daggers at us  (the same family who has a member that came after me twice when I was pregnant and I went into premature labor and my son was born with disabilities...yeah, sure, that sounds like fun!).  As far as the other trip, hubby can go by himself and save us all a lot of money.

Wow, can't wait!

Oh yeah, two months later and still not a word about spring break parenting time.  I wash my hands of caring about it.  Besides, my obscene stepson would just teach my kids things he shouldn't and I'd have to undo the damage he did while he was here - like mother, like son.

Updates, Xmas Break

>> Sunday, December 19, 2010

No word from the ex about spring break parenting time.  I know she's waiting until after xmas break to tell the husband no.  Once xmas break is over, and once she denies spring break parenting time, there will be no available time left for the kids to come here this school year.  I know how she works.

With all the obscenities from my stepson lately, I am ok with that right now.  Usually, I'd be pitching a fit and prodding hubby with a fork in his butt to not let her dictate the schedule but I honestly do not want my stepson's influence on my kids, especially my son.

We're almost all set for the holidays.  Two more gifts to buy and then I'm done shopping.  Christmas break started this past Friday for my kids but now two of them are down with the stomach flu.  My five-year-old who has the flu said today, "Being sick on break sucks.  I'd rather be sick during school."  Gotta love her!

My teenager and I need to sit down over break and talk about her health class (they discussed STD's like herpes simplex and more right before break) so she's a little grossed out and embarrassed about it all. Should be a fun talk.

Looking forward to another long weekend with my husband next weekend (he's off work) like we had this past weekend.  Hard to believe our 15th anniversary is next week and the attraction is still there.  It's really nice:)

Ex is Quiet

>> Thursday, December 2, 2010

No word from the ex for hubby's request for spring break parenting time. She's probably scheduling appointments and anything else she can during that time so she can email back with their over scheduled schedule.  They're always too busy for dad.  I'd be surprised, enough to fall out of my chair, if she comes back agreeable to it.

I hear a hot bath calling me.  I'm going to go relax in a hot soak in a quiet house, slather some face moisturizer on to combat this wicked cold that settled in here the night before last and forget about that selfish woman.

Spring Break Parenting Time

>> Tuesday, November 30, 2010

My husband just requested a week of the kids' spring break parenting time - giving them more than four months notice.  Odds are that she'll come back with it already scheduled up the wazoo for the kids and tell him no.

If she does that, I hope he demands his xmas parenting time.  That will include xmas and my stepdaughter's 18th birthday (which the ex is not going to want to miss).  He's given xmas to the ex the last several years because the kids don't want to leave her alone at xmas (whose fault is it that she is alone after all these years?  HERS!) and his employer has him working through some of it (most parents do) but there has to be one chunk of time he has with his kids this school year!

Fell in Love with Hubby All Over Again on Vacation

>> Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Our vacation is over.  It was such a good time.  A lot was crammed into a small amount of time but everybody had fun.

We started out with car problems and then my oldest daughter getting a migraine an hour before we are supposed to hit the road.  I gave her some caffeine and migraine medication and sent her to bed in complete dark.  She ended up throwing up with chills and then was ok after a couple hours.  We hit the road.

Since we drive by my stepkids' house on the way to my sister's home, we dropped in unexpectedly just to say hi.  The ex invited us in since it had turned cold outside (where we usually stand) and we had four kids with us.  I know - pick yourself up off the floor.  :)  We only stayed for a few minutes.  We hadn't seen my stepkids since last summer and we wanted to lay eyes on them and say hi for just a minute but we didn't want to intrude since it was an uninvited drop by.

The next day, my little sister tells me she is giving me a hair makeover PLUS she's bought me a new outfit to wear (because apparently I have no fashion sense:).  Off I go with her to get my hair cut and highlighted.  Oh yeah, she tells me after we get there that I'm getting my eyebrows waxed too.  (She knew if she'd told me that BEFORE we drove there, I wouldn't have done it.)  The salon gives us chardonnay to drink and my hair appointment is completed.  It's not to my sister's satisfaction (and really for the price, you should have been able to SEE the highlights which you couldn't in my hair).  I get another appointment for noon the next day to fix the highlights.

The next morning...my stepdaughter's band shows start.  We hit the morning show.  I'm looking good in my new clothes and wicked heels.  Unfortunately, they were SO wicked, they hurt too much to wear for very long (but you can be sure I wore them for the show).  Ouch!  Why does fashion have to hurt?  Anyway, we get there and I smile all friendly-like and say "hi" to the ex.  We are waiting out in the hall with all the other parents of the kids, including the ex, her brother, and my stepson for my stepdaughter's time (about 20 minute wait).  My stepson sticks by his mother most of the time and hubby chats with the ex and her brother periodically - friendly for the kids.  The morning show is over and off we go - me to get my hair finished and to get those dang shoes off.

In between the morning and my stepdaughter's afternoon show, my sister gives me a really stylish pair of boots that feel WONDERFUL after the wicked heels.  Then she raids her closet and dresses me - again.  My husband's eyes about fell out of his head.  I had on an expensive pair of low-rise jeans (I'd never spend over $100 on a pair of jeans!), a camisole and button up shirt with boots with my newly highlighted and straightened hair.  Trendy.  You'd have thought I was standing there naked for my husband's reaction.  Guess I better buy myself some "trendy."

My stepdaughter's afternoon show - we have to wait for 1-1/2 hours for her turn in the hallway with the ex.  This time, my stepson sticks by dad for 99% of the time.  We take pictures of my stepdaughter afterward and then the ex wants a picture of my stepdaughter with all of us (myself included because she mentioned my name).  Huh?  Really?  Was this to make herself look good in front of the friend she'd been chatting with for an hour who was standing there?  To throw darts at?  Or did she really want this picture with good intentions?  Who knows the real reason but we did it.  I felt like my face was frozen for the picture but oh well.  Show over and home we go to get ready again.  It's date night with hubby (we haven't gone out in about four years because we don't have a sitter in our hometown).

Date night was awesome.  We had a couple drinks, danced, talked and just enjoyed ourselves until almost bar closing.  We met some family there and then a couple friends I hadn't seen in 20+ years showed up.  We went home sober (neither wanted a hangover on vacation) and wrapped up in each other.  Instead of going to sleep, we ended up talking for a couple hours in bed until about 5:00 a.m.  It was SO wonderful.  During the day to day of normal family life and routine, we forget to concentrate on just the two of us for more than just short durations.  My husband told me that night as we talked that it was like falling in love all over again.  We've been pretty wrapped up in each other ever since.

I felt bad for going twice to get my hair done (hubby stayed at my sister's with the kids) and told hubby that.  He told me I shouldn't feel bad and that it was ok.  He told me that I had to put up with his ex several times that weekend so it was ok.

The next day is my daughter's birthday party.  My stepkids are coming to my sister's for the day.  We go to pick them up and my stepdaughter and the ex aren't home when we get there.  They show up about ten minutes later and we sit there for about a half hour, inside the ex's house on her couch, chatting with her until my stepdaughter and her boyfriend get their day's arrangements planned (her boyfriend is coming over too - time for dad to get to know the boyfriend).  The day goes well.  My stepdaughter told a story of how hubby had scratched the ex's car when they were going somewhere together.  I didn't realize that bothered hubby until he apologized for that conversation when the kids weren't around but I told him it was ok, that I expect the ex to tell the kids things about the time when they were together, that it may be a tad uncomfortable but it was certainly expected and ok.  Both kids were too young when they split to ever remember their dad with their mom and the only way they are going to know things is for the ex to tell them.  We all played guitars with my stepson and my stepdaughter's boyfriend, had dinner and cake, and then took them back to the ex's house when the time came to.  I felt sad after dropping them off.  Sad that we don't see my sisters more and sad that we aren't closer to my stepkids to see them more as well.  I ended up crying on the drive back to my sister's house.  I haven't cried about having to go home in years. Hubby was sweet about it all.

We get home from vacation and hubby decides he doesn't want the vacation to end yet so he takes another day off and we spend it all wrapped up in each other again.  I love that feeling - of being in love with my husband - after 14 years of marriage.  It's fantastic!

Reality returns and it's back to work today but it made me realize the importance of REALLY spending time with your spouse.  I don't mean just the regular day to day.  I know I love him and he loves me but we don't get to concentrate on just "us" with all the kids, work, etc.  Actually spending that time talking - just the two of us with no kids interrupting as man and woman and not just mom and dad - reminded me of not just really loving my husband but being IN LOVE with my husband as well.

A Few Days Left Before I Gouge My Eyes Out

>> Sunday, March 21, 2010

Actually, I'm kidding.  I don't actually want to gouge my eyes out when I see my husband's ex.  I just look at him and wonder what the heck he was thinking:)

Only a few days left until our trip to the great white north.  I have a few days left to get everything washed and packed.  I got nothing accomplished this weekend.  My oldest daughter had a dance (where she danced with a boy for the first time) and two sleepovers this weekend so we had the whole hairstyling/girly time to get her ready.

I was trying to think of little trinkets we can bring with us for the stepkids - something that doesn't take up a lot of room (since with six in a vehicle, it'll be a tight fit anyway).  Ideas for my stepdaughter are easier (since I'm a girl) but for my stepson, it's more difficult.  I can't go out and get him anything sporty like personalized footballs because he has zero interest in sports. He is into guitars but I can't squeeze a guitar into the vehicle with us (and he already has two expensive guitars so...it'd be redundant).

Perhaps being in the company of our greatness will be enough.  Haha.  Actually, with the cost of this trip, they might only get our company.

Trip Looming & So is Foreclosure

>> Monday, March 15, 2010

We are 1-1/2 weeks away from our trip to the great white north (which hopefully is all melted by the time we get there) to visit family, including spending time with my stepkids.  I've had insomnia so bad the last couple of weeks that I hope I'm not a zombie by the time the weekend trip rolls around.  There's a lot of financial stress right now and unless the attorney can do something, we will be losing our house.  I sent them the past due mortgage payments and Bank of America sent it all back to me!  I know people who haven't made house payments in a year and they aren't in the foreclosure process yet and we get a few payments behind and they want our house regardless of all the money flashed in their face.  I'm guessing that is why I can't sleep.  Good reason eh?

I feel like we shouldn't be taking this trip right now because it'd cost us half a house payment to do so but we have to see my husband's kids (and the mortgage company won't take the money anyway so what the heck).  It's been too long since seeing my stepkids and getting them to leave their mother alone to come here is difficult on them.  Plus, our kids want to see the rest of our family too.

Parenting Time Confirmation

>> Sunday, March 7, 2010

We have confirmation on seeing my stepkids on our vacation to the great white north in a couple weeks.  We will spend the day with them and celebrate our daughter's birthday while they are with us.

This time I have to remember my video camera.  Last time I forgot it and missed out on filming a hilarious karaoke session with my stepson.  That's something that has to be on video!  Too funny!

Countdown to Seeing Ex: One Month

>> Thursday, February 25, 2010

We are going on vacation next month - back to the state where we both grew up, met, loved, married, born a couple of our own children and fled with the hounds of hell yapping at us (ok, it was the ex and a family member of the ex but it sure sounded like the hounds of hell nagging at us 24/7 when we were there).  Rabid dogs behave miserably don't they?

My teen daughter decided she wanted a party in the home state for her birthday with family (instead of a party with her friends) so even though her birthday was last month, she's having the big party next month.  So, off we will go in a month for spring break...

I haven't seen the ex since last summer (it's been great) and since we are staying 15 minutes from where my stepkids live, of course we will be seeing them and hopefully having them at my daughter's birthday party (ya know, the birthday they ignored, didn't wish her a happy birthday for, send a text for, or anything like that).  It'd mean a lot to my daughter.

The stepkids know we are coming.  If they make other plans (like they tend to do all summer long), it wouldn't be a big surprise.  Legally, spring break is my husband's parenting time this year so they should set aside a couple days of it to spend with dad and siblings.  Legally, he could take them for the entire break so he's really not asking for much from them.  Ex's and teenagers - yikes!

Can't wait to see the ex in a month!  Not.  < - - - that's sarcasm.

Stepkid Damage

>> Sunday, April 19, 2009

When the stepkids come, it never fails that my stepson will break something. It used to be household items but it was also in the form of punches at my children's nose or pummeling his sister into the ground, I'd say it's an improvement when it is furniture over one of my children! It used to be really bad. He couldn't control his temper when he was younger. We used to keep a log of all his violence and it was scary stuff! (Of course, we had no cooperation from the ex either.) I dreaded what chaos would come with each visit and slept with one eye open. Now that he is a little older, he has a better handle on his reactions to anger. It seems like now is more rough-housing and seeing that he's a big kid, his rough-housing can leave some damage too unfortunately.

My three-year-old's sleigh toddler bed now has a broken wood support under the mattress. Seems my large 13-year-old stepson thought it was ok to jump on it and oops, he went through it. Sometimes I have to wonder what goes through his head.

My three-year-old had a little hero worship going on of her big brother during this visit for the first time. Even at that, she still wasn't afraid to stand up to his remarks, etc. We were sitting in the living room and coming up the stairs is my three-year-old saying, "Z says I suck and I don't suck!!" She was adamant that she didn't suck!

We had a problem with his language a few times during the visit. I had dad talk to him a couple times but it didn't seem to process because as soon as adults were out of hearing range, words my younger kids didn't need to hear spewed from his mouth ("white %itch" and "stupid a$$"...things like that) so they would come to me to tell.

By the end of the visit, my three-year-old, who actually bonded to my stepson unexpectedly this visit, had had enough too. After a week of him rough-housing with some of his sisters (sitting on them, wrestling, etc.) and teasing her personally, she couldn't take anymore I guess. The last time he sat on my oldest daughter (who already had a bruised arm and wrenched knee from his "play") the day they were to leave, my three year old told him not to do that and took a swing at him - in the nads.

My kids don't rough-house like that. I can remember as a kid, my brother would sit on our heads and pass gas or hold us under the covers after gassing it up, or tickle until I wanted to cry, etc. My kids don't do any of that stuff. Their brother's visits are always an experience for them (and me to tell you the truth). I am exhausted!

Two Days Until Stepkids Here

>> Thursday, April 9, 2009

The stepkids will be here in two days (should've been one but I've done my share of complaining about that already so I'll spare you the griping again). We haven't seen them since July. After a day of getting used to each other again, I'm hoping for some connection - at least for all the kids and my husband. I know they have to keep their distance from me to keep their mother off their backs.

I told myself I was going to go easy on the Easter candy this year because it's expensive for six kids but once at the store...well, I think I went overboard. I'm sure it won't be near as much as what the ex will give the stepkids, and I'm sure we'll hear about that (who cares), but that wasn't my concern. According to OUR standards, there's an awful lot of chocolate but it's CHOCOLATE! I'm a choco-holic. Five of the kids will also have a book for Easter as well and then for my three-year-old, who already has a ton of books, I bought her a little Dora toy and a $1 hair set (brush, hair bands) instead. In addition to the custom tote bags I made to put it all in, the kids did pretty dang good.

Pathetic Excuse for a Mother: She never fails to remind me why I dislike her.

>> Friday, April 3, 2009

For my husband's spring break parenting time, he is getting them starting on Saturday, instead of on Friday (they don't have school on Friday and technically, he could get them Thursday after school lets out) but according to the ex...

They are spending the day (Friday) with her parents (who they see more often than any of us). My stepson is spending Friday evening with his friends (who he sees all the time) and my stepdaughter is spending Friday evening with her boyfriend (again, who she sees all the time).

They haven't see their dad or their four siblings since last July. They haven't seen their paternal grandparents since last Easter. However, none of that is important enough to the ex so hubby can't have them until Saturday. So instead of my in-laws being able to bring them down with them when they come here Friday (they live in the same state), hubby will drive the 200+ miles on Saturday to get the kids here (unless my in-laws change their plans for her).

She's such a pathetic excuse for a human being! She never fails to remind me why I can't stand her.

For summer parenting time, he is legally supposed to have five consecutive weeks. He doesn't take that lump visit like that because their mother can't handle them leaving her for very long..she cries and carries on when they'd leave her just for a weekend so you can imagine how she is for longer parenting time occurrences. Instead, he takes 1-2 weeks total...appeasing that nasty thing who puts the kids through heck with her behavior. I hope that he takes all five weeks in one lump sump like he is entitled to. I am so damn tired of her thinking that dad and our children aren't important enough. I also think it is important that my stepkids understand that this time is important too.

Anybody else get nervous about stepkids coming over?

>> Tuesday, March 3, 2009

I went window shopping today to get ideas for things to do when my stepkids are here. Last year, we decorated easter eggs and cookies...the usual stuff. This year, I think I want to try making candy (chocolate, of course!). I was looking at all the different molds for making chocolate truffles and chocolate suckers. It looks like so much fun! I think it'd be a great joint activity to do with all the kids together. Who doesn't love chocolate? It might be nice to do a scrapbook while they are here together. Just some ideas I am kicking around.

I have a little trepidation about the upcoming visit. Nerves, I guess, wondering how it will go. Will it take all week for the kids to get comfortable and then it'll be time for them to go back to their mother's or will they settle in quickly? Will they be ok or will they show the effects of having to be alienated from us?

I am just a little nervous. Imagine how much more it will be when April actually gets here! We had so much violence and frustrations in previous years from one of my stepchildren. I am hoping it will go well but I worry that we will have a repeat and that would be really bad.

Stepkids are coming for spring break

>> Sunday, March 1, 2009

My stepkids are coming for Spring Break. They will be here for a week. My kids are very excited and can't wait to see their siblings.

I am already starting to think about menus since my stepdaughter is a vegetarian and the last couple of times they were here, our grocery bill went into the $400/week range! I really need to find a way to stock my kitchen for six kids (two of them teenagers) without breaking our budget. We broke it last year during their visits - broke it, stomped on it, and destroyed it.

Since they will be here for Easter, I also have to plan Easter baskets...not that they believe in the Easter Bunny anymore. My kids do though so it'll be Easter baskets for everybody!

I also have to get my husband's car fixed before then so he can make the trip to pick them up and return them. The car has been sitting in the driveway for months because we haven't been able to afford to get it fixed. He's been using mine for work and since he works an odd shift, it's worked out ok. However, I don't want to be left without a vehicle all day long when he goes to pick up his kids in case we have an emergency with one of our kids. I don't have family in this state to rely on so I really have to have a vehicle available to me. I can't just call him if he's a couple hours away if there is an emergency and I need the car. I have to figure out where to squeeze that into the budget.

Everything always comes down to money.

Keeping Contact with the Kids

>> Saturday, February 7, 2009

...even if they act like it doesn't matter and that a few weeks of their time with us a year is more a burden than a joy (to them).

Despite the kids' change in attitude the last few years to protect their mother's feelings over their relationship with us, and the resulting lessening of contact by them, we still continue to maintain it. It's not easy. There have been so many times where I've thrown my hands up and said "to hell with it" because of something the kids have done, or not done (usually not done) but it's an emotional reaction that calms and cooler heads prevail once it's over and you do what you have to for the kids in the hopes that when they are adults, they will realize (yeah, right, but there's always hope right?).

At no time, EVER, will the kids be able to say that we didn't care, that we didn't love them. Oh yeah, I'm sure they will try, because parental alienation is a hard nut to crack, but boxes of copies of everything can't be wrong though now can it?

So we continue contact. Hubby calls them regularly even if they don't say a whole lot on the phone. This past week, we sent them a text with pic of their sister at the basketball game, a greeting card, a letter on the happenings in the family (mostly with their siblings who they don't show enough attention to!) and their siblings' school pictures. Who knows what they receive though, ya know? There were times when we'd ask the kids if they received a letter, etc. and they'd have no idea what we were talking about. After we asked, it would show up. Imagine that!

Spring break is coming which means it is time to consider dates for parenting time. Do they want to be here? No, because it means leaving their mother alone and too many times of seeing her crying when they left did its work on them.

I just want to let out a huge sigh just thinking about it and what should be (without parental alienation) instead of what is.
